Chairman's Musings.

Updated: Nov 7, 2019

ADFAS Pokolbin started this year with some memorable events.

The first was a well-attended beheading – a Maitland Movie afternoon on Sunday February 10th to see “Mary Queen of Scots”.

We have had two excellent lectures already in the modern state-of-the art Cessnock Performing Arts Centre.

On March 4th, Dr Jacqueline Cockburn explained the intricacies of “Cubism” to an appreciative audience. She was delighted that CPAC was undergoing renovations that made the lecture space a little more intimate.

Four weeks later, on March 25th, Dr Peter McNeil told us the story of “Reigning Men”, the largest exhibition of men’s fashion ever assembled, which travelled from Los Angeles in 2015 throughout the world and was on display at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney from May to October 2018.

This year, ADFAS Pokolbin plans a trip to the Archibald Prize on Tuesday 28th May. The day involves travel by bus to the AGNSW, early guided entry to the Archibald, another guided tour of “Marcel Duchamp” and time to explore the Gallery and take in the Jeffrey Smart exhibition.

The coming of Easter brings long awaited cooler weather, time with family and friends, possibly the Royal Easter Show for some and special religious ceremonies for others.

The significance of Anzac Day remains for many of us, and the remembrance is now being embraced by the younger generation.

Best wishes from ADFAS Pokolbin for a peaceful holiday time for members, their friends and families.

Heather McKendry

Chairman ADFAS Pokolbin.
